Outside Right
Also known as Outside · Outside Gerupuk · Giligoleng
The bay's power wave — a fast, hollow right that barrels with size, under the Gili Golong hills.
Outside Right is where Gerupuk shows its teeth — a steep, fast right that barrels with size, breaking beneath the two sculpted Gili Golong hills at the western entrance to the bay.
The wave
A steep drop into fast, hollow, barreling sections — the bay's power wave. There are really two peaks: a shifty outside “bomb” over deeper reef and an easier inside reform that's a good intro to point-style surfing. Around 200 m of reef gives several take-off spots, and it catches more swell than Inside.
Getting there by boat
Boat-access only, with a dramatic approach beneath the two sculpted Gili Golong hills at the western tip of the bay entrance — roughly a 10-minute ride.
Hazards & access
Sharp reef, shallow at low tide, with strong currents on bigger swells. You can't ride straight in — it ends on sharp, shallow reef, so kick out before the inside.
Outside Right FAQ
Does Outside Right barrel?+
Yes — on overhead swells and lower tides it throws fast, hollow barrels. It needs a solid 4 ft+ to fire on the outside peak.
Can intermediates surf it?+
The inside reform is a good step up — a fun intro to point-break-style waves. The outside bomb is better left to confident, advanced surfers.
Should I wear booties?+
A personal preference, but the reef is sharp — many surfers wear them here, especially at lower tides.
