Gerupuk Bay surf guide
Gerupuk is a hill-fringed bay on Lombok's south coast, a short ride east of Kuta. It holds a cluster of reef breaks that can be reached by a quick boat ride from the village.
Several peaks, each favouring a different tide, swell and wind, mean there's almost always something rideable.
InsideThe bay's beginner classic — a slow, forgiving right that peels forever in the eastern corner.›Outside RightThe bay's power wave — a fast, hollow right that barrels with size, under the Gili Golong hills.›Outside LeftA hollow, uncrowded left for confident surfers — the bay's quiet gem, best when it's small.›Don-DonA mellow A-frame in the middle of the bay — long, makeable rides both ways, and a big-swell sanctuary.›
The breaks
| Break | Wave | Level | Best tide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside | Right-hand reef | Beginner + | All tides · soft reef |
| Outside Right | Right reef / point | Intermediate – advanced | Mid – high |
| Outside Left | Left-hand reef | Advanced | Mid – mid-high |
| Don-Don | A-frame reef · L & R | Beginner – intermediate | Across tides; not dead low |
The boats
Boats are priced per boat, not per person. Typically cost around IDR 150,000–200,000 for a ~2-hour session. So four surfers splitting one pay roughly IDR 40,000–50,000 each. Jukung is the solution to find others heading to the same break and share the ride.
