Outside Left is Gerupuk's quiet gem — a hollow, uncrowded left for confident surfers out at the far south-east opening in front of Pantai Terasak, and the one break here that's best when it's small.

The wave

A steep take-off straight into a short, sharp barrel, closing out onto shallow reef. Counter-intuitively it's best when small — around 2–4 ft — because it's so exposed to open-ocean swell, and it's the least reliable of the four breaks, which is exactly why it stays empty.

Getting there by boat

Boat-access only and the longest ride in the bay — right out to the south-east opening in front of Pantai Terasak, the furthest break from the village.

Hazards & access

Sharp, shallow reef with an inside closeout — pick your exit before it. This is the one Gerupuk break where most sources genuinely recommend booties.

Outside Left FAQ

Why is Outside Left so quiet?+

It's the furthest break from the village and the least consistent, so the crowds skip it. That's the appeal — a hollow left often to yourself.

When does it work best?+

On a clean, small south/SW swell (≈2–4 ft) with an east offshore wind. Bigger isn't better here — it's too exposed.

Do I need booties?+

Yes — most sources recommend them. The reef is sharp and shallow with an inside closeout.
