Outside Left
Also known as Terasaq · Terasak
A hollow, uncrowded left for confident surfers: the bay's quiet gem, best when it's small.
Guide updated 3 July 2026
Outside Left is Gerupuk's quiet gem, a hollow, uncrowded left for confident surfers out at the far south-east opening in front of Pantai Terasak, and the one break here that's best when it's small.
The wave
A steep take-off straight into a short, sharp barrel, closing out onto shallow reef. Counter-intuitively it's best when small, around 2–4 ft, because it's so exposed to open-ocean swell, and it's the least reliable of the four breaks, which is exactly why it stays empty.
Getting there by boat
Boat-access only and the longest ride in the bay, right out to the south-east opening in front of Pantai Terasak, the furthest break from the village.
Hazards & access
Sharp, shallow reef with an inside closeout, so pick your exit before it. This is the one Gerupuk break where most sources genuinely recommend booties.
Outside Left FAQ
Why is Outside Left so quiet?+
It's the furthest break from the village and the least consistent, so the crowds skip it. That's the appeal: a hollow left often to yourself.
When does it work best?+
On a clean, small south/SW swell (≈2–4 ft) with an east offshore wind. Bigger isn't better here because it's too exposed.
Do I need booties?+
Yes, most sources recommend them. The reef is sharp and shallow with an inside closeout.
