A mellow A-frame in the middle of the bay — long, makeable rides both ways, and a big-swell sanctuary.
Don-Don is the bay's mellow A-frame — long, makeable rides both ways from a peak in the middle of the bay, and the reliable sanctuary that turns on when the outer reefs get too big.
The wave
A makeable take-off into long rides both directions — the left is often the more fun side. It crumbles rather than dumps, giving you time on the face for turns and footwork. Sitting deep in the bay, it needs a decent swell (~5 ft+) to switch on, and gets better as the swell builds.
Getting there by boat
Boat-access only — the quickest ride in the bay, a couple of minutes from the village harbour, breaking into a safe channel for an easy paddle-out and exit.
Best tide & timing
Works across most tides but turns shallow and rocky at the inside on a low. Well sheltered, so it's a smart dry-season option when the wind is up — and, as everywhere in Gerupuk, dawn is cleanest.
Don-Don FAQ
Is Don-Don good for beginners?+
Yes — it's a mellow A-frame that suits improvers and intermediates, and beginners on smaller, makeable days. Watch the shallow reef at the inside on low tide.
Do I need a boat?+
Yes. Like all four Gerupuk breaks it's boat-access only — a local outrigger from the village, about two minutes out. There's no beach paddle-out.
When does it work best?+
It needs ~5 ft+ of S swell to wake up and actually improves on bigger days, holding long, clean lines when the outer reefs max out. Mid tide and dawn are the sweet spot.
